I didn't finish my game for the "Finish Your Game Jam"

Let’s Talk Hype:

You know I’ve been working on a game set in an old Roadside Motel. You didn’t know Lynne and I are making 2 games set in Roadside Motels.

The long game’s working title is “Lisa’s Game”. I told you about that one here: Lisa's Game (working title) - Introduction and first 9 months. Lisa’s Game needs to simmer a while before it’s done.

The short game is “Motel Styx”. That’s this game. And it should be done before long. Greek stuff. Charon. Hades. You know. The big players from the stickiest stories ever told.

Let’s talk Dev

Blah blah Unity.
Blah blah ProBuilder.
Blah Blender for 2 months straight.
Blah blah happy with the art style.
Blah blah damn it takes a long time to make even a relatively simple game.

The design for Motel Styx was done nearly a month ago. Every day I look at the 8 pieces of paper where I drew the fully designed puzzles. But it takes time to build assets, rig, animate, light, write a little code, write some dialogue, and play Eastward, Hitman III, and Inscryption.

So, for the “Finish Your Game Jam'' I finished all the key Assets. I got everything into Unity, and started the level design. I have been distracted by early polish, but I've also made a lot of progress.

The biggest risk now is the fact that I haven’t built some of the key puzzle mechanics. That sounds bad when I write it down. That sounds like I have a very large cart and no horse. But I know how to build what’s missing. The only reason I haven’t yet is that I was so worried about getting the look and feel of this game down, I left puzzle mechanics to the end.

I don’t blame you if you doubt my ability to get this done.

But I have no doubt.

I make no promises about the timeline. But you didn’t ask me to. You just found out this game was being made 10 minutes ago.
